| AIDAblu left Meyer Werft in Papenburg Friday
on its two-day transit down the Ems River to the sea for sea trials. The
slow process by ships leaving Meyer is necessitated by the shallow depth
and the extremely tight maneuvers through various obstacles (locks and
bridges) caused by the ever-growing size of the ships. The ship
arrived in the Dutch port of Eemshaven on Saturday (January 16).
AIDAblu is the fourth in the class of six on order by Carnival's AIDA brand. The 71,300-ton vessel will enter service on February 9 when it is christened in an evening ceremony in Hamburg by German designer Jette Joop. |
